Biography
Snarls, an Ohio outfit, merge jagged intensity with lush, melodic dream pop inside their aggressive indie rock approach. The Columbus group signed to East Coast indie Take This to Heart after issuing their first EP independently, and that label delivered their debut album Burst in March 2020. Support tours with Louis Tomlinson and Briston Maroney came next, followed by a journey to Norway where the band tracked its follow-up under producer Chris Walla; the resulting sophomore LP, With Love, arrived in May 2024.
Snarls originated in Columbus, Ohio, during the members’ high school years. Vocalist and guitarist Chlo White crossed paths with bassist Riley Hall on White’s first day of classes, after which the pair recruited brothers Mick Martinez on guitar and Max Martinez on drums to round out the roster. Their self-titled debut EP was captured at Capital University’s studios in Columbus and released independently in June 2018. The quartet displayed an early knack for pairing punk bite with sturdy vocal harmonies and melodic clarity.
Take This to Heart, the Massachusetts indie, then signed the band, leading to the March 2020 release of Burst, which earned strong notices and widened Snarls’ national profile. In 2021 the group traveled to Washington to work again with former Death Cab for Cutie member Chris Walla, who produced the What About Flowers? EP. Continued road work over the next two years included the standalone 2022 single “After You (Samantha’s Song)” and dates supporting U.K. star Louis Tomlinson alongside American artist Briston Maroney. Once more teaming with Walla, Snarls headed to Norway to record at the producer’s home. Operating as a trio after Max Martinez’s departure, the band expanded its heavy yet tuneful sound on the vivid May 2024 release With Love.
