Biography
So Pitted, a Seattle-based trio, fuse sludgy post-punk with experimental noise rock edged by grunge. The members came together through a mutual admiration for Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, and the Mars Volta. Multi-instrumentalists Nathan Rodriguez, Liam Downey, and Jeannine Koewler anchor the group, which derived its name from a widely viewed YouTube clip of a surfer shouting the phrase after a rough ride. Nonlinear songwriting and desperate lyrics layered over constantly shifting yet relentlessly heavy dynamics have prompted comparisons to Sonic Youth, Tad, Mudhoney, Fucked Up, and early Nirvana. Ahead of their first full-length album, Neo, issued by Sub Pop in early 2016, the band issued the singles "Holding the Void," "Feed Me," and "Rot in Hell" in late 2015.
