Hailing from Brooklyn, Spencer Ludwig performs as a singer, trumpeter, and producer whose sound fuses funk with jazz and R&B elements inside pop frameworks. Los Angeles is his birthplace, where he grew up with a Filipino mother and a Canadian father of Russian ancestry. Music entered his life in fourth grade through the saxophone, followed by French horn during high school years. By senior year he had taught himself trumpet, leading him to audition for college programs as a trumpeter and gain admission to the California Institute of the Arts. Jazz studies occupied him there while he performed locally with a cover band. Members of indie rock group Capital Cities noticed him in 2012 and extended an invitation to join, after which he spent four years on the road with the band and contributed to its debut album, A Tidal Wave of Mystery. Live appearances alongside Foster the People, St. Lucia, Fitz & the Tantrums, and additional acts filled that same period. A solo path opened in 2015 once he secured a Warner Bros. recording contract. The 2016 singles “Diggy” and “Right Into U” appeared next, succeeded by independent tracks such as 2017’s “Fuel to the Fire” and “Got Me Like,” plus two remix EPs titled Diggy Feels, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. The single “Just Wanna Dance” arrived in 2018.
