Biography
Swedish producer Staffan Linzatti works in a dry, minimal, hypnotic strain of techno shaped by the classic Detroit sound yet marked by a contemporary edge. Field Records issued his debut album, The Dynamic Dispatch, in 2017.
Born and raised in Eskilstuna, a midsize industrial city in southern Sweden roughly 70 miles west of Stockholm, Linzatti encountered little local electronic activity. His brother Matthias supplied the primary point of entry into the music, and the two would later collaborate closely. He began constructing tracks on a computer and teaching himself to DJ; after finishing school, the brothers relocated to Gothenburg, where they finally connected with a community of like-minded artists, clubs, and record shops.
Linzatti’s first 12" appeared in 2005 on Pickadoll Records as a collaboration with John Dahlbäck: the house-flavored, club-oriented “Outside.” Additional singles followed on Rrygular, Synewave, and Stockholm Ltd., tracing a gradual shift toward a more minimalist, Detroit-rooted approach. He maintained a Zen-like working method, pulling ideas from disparate sources such as architecture and sneakers while constantly seeking to extend his range and invent fresh sonic architectures. With his brother he recorded as Decoy Linzatti, notably contributing the track “Quibble” to the “Timber Owls” EP. In 2011 the pair started their own imprint, Searchlights, opening the catalog with Staffan’s “Assembler.” He went on to work with Pär Grindvik and Arnaud Le Texier and placed further EPs on Balans, Chronicle, and Field, the last of which released the triple-LP edition of The Dynamic Dispatch in 2017.
