Sumo, a Latin rock ensemble, entered Argentina’s music landscape during the middle of the 1980s. The group operated under the direction of Italian-born Luca Prodan, whose initial roster featured German Daffunchio on guitar, Stephanie Nuttal handling drums, Diego Arnedo on bass, and Roberto Pettinato contributing saxophone. British national Stephanie Nuttal departed for England amid the escalating tensions and eventual conflict over the Falklands, known also as Malvinas, prompting her replacement by Alejandro Sokol. In 1985 Sumo issued Divididos Por La Felicidad, which achieved local chart success through the track “La Rubia Tarada.” The subsequent release Llegando Los Monos arrived in 1986 and received its live unveiling at Buenos Aires’ Obras Sanitarias venue. Even as “Mejor No Hablar De Ciertas Cosas” maintained regular airplay across South American stations, the band proceeded to record After Chabon. Luca Prodan suffered a fatal heart attack on December 22, 1987. This loss profoundly impacted the remaining musicians, who delivered their final performance together at the 1988 Chateau Rock Festival.
