Originating in Berlin, Super700 consist of seven members—three sisters handling vocals alongside four instrumentalists—who deliver literate pop/rock that remains engaging yet imaginative while pushing at the edges of current mainstream styles. The group was founded by Ibadet Ramadani, the oldest daughter of a German-Albanian family who pens all the lyrics, together with bassist Michael Haves, who writes the bulk of the music. Ibadet serves as lead singer, supported by harmony vocals from her sisters Ilirjana Ramadani and Albana Ramadani, while guitarist Johannes Hall, keyboardist Simon Rauterberg, and percussionist Sebastian Schmidt complete the lineup. The band first performed publicly in 2003, appearing at modest venues across Germany and Switzerland. Their debut EP, When Hare and Fox Had Fun, arrived in 2005; shortly afterward they encountered producer Gordon Raphael, whose prior credits include the Strokes and Regina Spektor. Impressed by the material, Raphael agreed to helm their debut full-length record. Titled Super700, the album reached European stores in spring 2006. Months later the band’s songs featured in the film French for Beginners once director Christian Ditter discovered their work. In spring 2007 Super700 made their initial U.S. appearances with several California shows, one of which was aired live on the radio program Morning Becomes Eclectic.
