Supla

Brazilian Supla, born Eduardo Smith de Vasconcellos Suplicy to parents Eduardo and Marta Suplicy, took up drums at age eleven. Three years afterward he joined his initial group, Os Impossiveis. Local touring opportunities arrived once he entered his next ensemble, Metropolis. Setting the sticks aside, he began handling vocals for Zig Zag, whose sound centered on British hardcore punk. Following a name change to Tokyo, CBS issued the band’s first album, Humanos, which featured notable input from Cauby Peixoto and Nina Hagen.

In 1995 Supla relocated to New York and entered the lineup of Psycho 69, formerly called Mad Parade, releasing a record that gained exposure through East Coast dates supporting the Ramones. An encounter with Brooklyn rapper Kojack prompted him to explore hardcore rap, resulting in the subsequent Brazilian best-sellers Bossa Furiosa and O Charada Brasileiro.
