Tama Gucci navigates between yearning slow jams and cathartic dancefloor tracks, occupying territory that merges alternative R&B with left-field pop while also drawing on Miami bass, drum'n'bass, and house. The Miami-raised, New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer entered the commercial arena in 2016, subsequently issuing Out of Order (2017), Almost Blue (2021), and Notes to Self (2024), the last two through Sinderlyn, the sister label of Captured Tracks.

Kymani Floyd first cultivated an online identity as Tama Gucci, a name referencing his fondness for Tamagotchi Pets alongside the fashion house Gucci, during his mid-2010s teenage years. He shifted rapidly from covers to original material and self-released his initial commercial single, the poised, slightly off-center ballad "Boys Cry Too," in 2016. Following a handful of additional tracks, the full-length Out of Order arrived in 2017, fronted by the dazed slow jam "Take It Off." Visibility continued through a steady succession of singles plus the EPs Yours Truly and Fantasy, which surfaced in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Almost Blue, a seven-track EP leaning more explicitly toward the dancefloor, appeared on Sinderlyn in 2021. Release momentum eased until Notes to Self landed in 2024 as a half-hour set that explored hazy rock ballads while also featuring some of his most pop-oriented material and intensely physical club tracks.
