Ayad Al Adhamy of Passion Pit reveals his rock leanings through Team Spirit. Longing to play guitar again after focusing on synths, he recruited college roommate Roman Tobias Pettigrew of the People's Church of Animal Town to handle bass and backing vocals, brought in recording partner Champagne Dave Weingarten on drums, and added Cosmo Di Giulio of DOM on guitar, all to craft a sound rooted in power pop. The band's self-titled, self-released EP landed in February 2012 at the same time as their inaugural tour. In September 2014, two years afterward, a reconfigured Team Spirit lineup—now consisting of Al Adhamy alongside guitarist Kieren Smith, bassist Dan De Lara, and drummer Alex Russek—issued the group's first full-length album, Killing Time.
