Teeyah, a singer and songwriter recognized for her subtle vocal deliveries in an R&B vein and her incorporation of coupé-décalé beats, first drew widespread attention in the mid-2000s through her contribution to Kaysha’s 2003 international hit “On Dit Quoi.” Living in France, she issued her initial solo project, Métisse, the next year. Commercial momentum peaked with her third album, Mise à Nue, in 2009, after which she moved into film acting by portraying Raymonde in the 2015 musical Laurent et Safi.

Originally from Boundiali, Ivory Coast, Teeyah arrived in France with her family during childhood and took up piano and flute. As a teenager she crossed paths with singer/rapper/producer Kaysha, who placed her on the single “On Dit Quoi” alongside Top One Frisson and Anofela. The track resonated across Africa and beyond, opening doors to further successes such as “Couper Décaler” and “Je T'aime, Je T'aime, Je T'aime” from her 2004 debut Métisse, which expanded her reach throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and the African continent.

Her second album, Je Veux Vivre, followed in 2006 and captured the RTI Music Award for Diaspora Music Album of the year. Among the standout tracks from the 2009 full-length Mise à Nue was “Bye Bye” featuring Fally Ipupa. By then Teeyah was performing globally, including dates in the West Indies, the U.S., and Canada.

She joined Lynnsha on “Femmes Fatales 4” in 2013, then made her big-screen debut as Raymonde opposite Tatiana Rojo’s Safi in the 2015 musical Laurent et Safi, which blended nine original songs with more than 25 African hits. For the remainder of the decade she focused on singles, releasing “T'es Pas Méchant” in 2018 and the Wiz Ofuasia collaboration “Cha Cha” in 2020, among other recordings.
