Terry Lynn chose from the start of her path to tackle Jamaican music through an activist lens, directing her lyrics toward crime and the struggles of inner-city hardship in place of reggae's usual bright sounds and themes of joy or romance. As the youngest in a family of nine raised amid hardship in Waterhouse, a struggling district of Kingston, she poured the bleak outlook of that setting into her opening release, the raw electro-dance cut "Kingstonlogic" that referenced Daft Punk and M.I.A. In 2007 she teamed with Phred at Phree Music, who assembled five remixes and issued them on the EP Kingstonlogic 1.0. Jamaican photographer Peter Dean Rickards, founder of the social media network the Afflicted Yard, joined the project to direct a video. Presented as a dynamic montage of still images in the style of National Geographic photojournalism, the clip closed with the line "to be continued," signaling the arrival of Kingstonlogic 2.0., her debut full-length album slated for September 2008.
