The experimental post-rock group known as the Big Sleep consists of Danny Barria handling guitar duties, Sonya Balchandani on bass and vocals, along with Gabe Rhodes on drums. Based in Brooklyn, this trio produces a dark collection of psychedelic sounds blended with indie rock elements. Before the Big Sleep came together in 2005, Balchandani had already launched her career through the stylish noise pop outfit Hong Kong, whereas Barria had performed alongside Haywood and in the Detroit-based dream pop group Mahogany. An independently issued EP titled You Today, Me Tomorrow preceded their signing with the French Kiss label during the first months of 2006. Their first full-length album, Son of the Tiger, arrived in September of that year, followed by Sleep Forever in 2008, which drew parallels to the initial recordings by Sonic Youth. In 2012, the project resurfaced with a reduced lineup featuring only Barria and Balchandani, releasing Nature Experiments that included the track "Ace."
