Hailing from Canada, the Darcys function as a dance-infused electronic-pop duo anchored by singer/songwriters Jason Couse and Wes Marskell. Drawing their name from the memorable protagonist in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the pair formed in Etobicoke, Ontario in 2007. Following a move to Halifax, Nova Scotia, they expanded to a four-piece and issued their debut album, Endless Water, that same year. A later relocation to Toronto brought a fifth member into the fold.

The Darcys arrived as their sophomore release in 2011. Further personnel shifts unfolded over the ensuing years, marked by departures and the appearance of an experimental cover of Steely Dan’s 1977 album Aja.

Warring, their third album, surfaced in 2013. Its favorable reception produced the band’s first Juno Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year and placed them on the 2014 Polaris Music Prize longlist.

The next year the Darcys confirmed their return to the original duo configuration of Couse and Marskell. Centerfold, their fourth studio album, followed in 2016. Produced by Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius, Julian Casablancas) and tracked in New Zealand, Los Angeles, Banff, and Toronto, the record featured the singles “Miracle” and “San Diego, 1988.”
