Biography
In 1997 the lineup that would evolve into The Defectors first assembled as Thee Fuzz Arts, featuring Martin Budde on drums and organ alongside Nikolaj Grummesgaard on guitar and vocals and Torben Skovgaard on bass, their style echoing the gritty refinement of 1960s rock as defined by the Sonics, The Kinks and The Wailers. Jonas Jørgensen was brought in on drums and Mort Harder took over lead vocals, expanding the group to a five-piece that carried the same backward-looking spirit into their Danish homeland under the name The Persuaders. Because that title was already claimed, the band settled on The Defectors in 1998 after Mik Stegger assumed guitar duties. The following year ESP Recordings issued the quintet’s debut full-length, Let Me....
