Biography
The Turbo A.C.'s formed amid the New York City streets during the opening years of the 1990s. Kevin Cole handled vocals and guitar alongside drummer Kevin Prunty and bassist Michael Dolan; the trio issued multiple EPs plus tracks on various compilations before Blackout put out their first full-length album, Damnation Overdrive, in 1996. That record captured the group’s high-octane punk & roll, a style that propelled Dick Dale through the whiskey-fueled velocity of Motörhead while coating the result in engine grease. Extensive road work refined their approach and built an audience; following additional compilation contributions and a split 7" alongside the Hellboys, the band delivered its second album, Winner Take All, via Cacophone in 1998. Prior to inking a deal with Nitro Records, the Turbo A.C.'s continued releasing singles and appearing on compilations. Their Nitro debut arrived as the 2001 LP Fuel for Life, promoted through shows in small clubs as well as on the expansive stages of the Warped Tour. Automatic surfaced in 2003, produced by Blag Dahlia, mixed by Billy Milano, and released simultaneously by Bitzcore across Europe and Gearhead in the United States; observers widely regarded it as the band’s most ferocious recording to date. The Turbo A.C.'s backed the album with another grueling stretch of concerts, just as they had since their earliest days. Avenue X reached listeners in June 2005.
