Thomas Barquee entered the world in Hamburg, Germany, during 1963. Classical keyboard and piano lessons occupied his childhood, while pop sounds captured his attention once he reached his teenage years. In the early 1990s he assembled the group Million Dollar Secret and issued their sole record, Under the Surface. After the ensemble dissolved, he issued the solo effort Long Way to Go, which achieved European success through the track “Girls Talk.” During a touring hiatus he put out Dancing on My Own in 1992 as his next album and followed it with Zulu Time in 1994. Relocating to Los Angeles opened freelance avenues, leading him to score projects for film, television, and commercials. Growing disenchanted with mainstream pop, he cultivated a deeper fascination with ambient and trance forms that took spiritual shape in Temple, an album the Hearts of Space label brought out in 2000. For that project Barquee handled every instrumental layer himself save the percussion while applying his distinctive vocal techniques.
