Biography
The duo Timeflies merges melodic pop craftsmanship with expansive electronic dance production techniques and studio innovation. Emerging during the first years of the 2010s, the act issued its initial collection, The Scotch Tape, before achieving a Billboard Top 200 peak of number eight with the follow-up album After Hours in 2014.
Producer Rob Resnick and vocalist Cal Shapiro initially crossed paths as members of the funk outfit the Ride, which performed regularly in the vicinity of Tufts University. They launched Timeflies in 2010 and, the following year, put out their self-released debut The Scotch Tape, whose name nods to Shapiro’s affinity for spirits. The pair’s video platform soon featured a recurring Timeflies Tuesday segment that reinterpreted current chart successes, drawing rapid subscriber growth that prompted Island/Def Jam to sign them and issue the One Night EP toward the close of 2012. Their single “I Choose U” appeared in 2013, after which further sessions took place once the duo had relocated its workspace to Los Angeles.
After Hours marked their 2014 return and was propelled by the tracks “All the Way” and “Somebody Gon Get It,” the latter featuring T-Pain. Their third long-player, Just for Fun, surfaced in autumn 2015 and contained the songs “Worse Things Than Love” with Natalie La Rose alongside “Guilty.” The standalone “Once in a While” surfaced in 2016, while the early-2017 Too Much EP included the Shy Martin collaboration “Raincoat.” In 2018 the duo released “Little Bit,” which was housed on the EP To Dream, and early the next year they followed with “Back When We Were Kids” and “First Time.”
