Biography
Known for her theatrical sensibility and skill at spinning sweeping tales of romance and existence, Maty Noyes first gained notice through joint projects with fellow musicians, among them a vocal turn on the Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, before stepping forward as a headliner. After issuing the well-regarded EPs Noyes Complaint in 2016 and Love Songs from a Lolita in 2018, she delivered her debut full-length album, The Feeling’s Mutual, in 2021.
Raised in Corinth, Mississippi, Noyes began studying piano in childhood, later switching to guitar and eventually composing her own material. Drawing from the work of Etta James, Alanis Morissette, Madonna, and Amy Winehouse, she busked on the streets of Nashville at age eleven during a family trip to the city. At sixteen she convinced her parents to allow her to relocate there independently, later moving on to Los Angeles, yet she continued performing regularly throughout her Mississippi hometown in the intervening years.
Her self-titled debut EP, released independently in 2013, enjoyed only a brief window of availability. Positive industry response soon led to a 2014 signing with Lava Records, after which her early recordings were removed from circulation to prepare for her major-label introduction. A connection formed when mutual producer Stephan Moccio introduced her to the Weeknd, resulting in her appearance on the closing track “Angel” from his 2015 album Beauty Behind the Madness. Early the following year she secured another prominent guest spot on “Stay,” the fourth single from Kygo’s 2015 album Cloud Nine. In late 2015 she contributed “Haunted,” her first major-label solo release, to the soundtrack of the Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman film The Secret in Their Eyes.
August 2015 brought the Lava/Republic Records single “Charge It to the Game,” issued simultaneously via her own SoundCloud account alongside “Can’t Tell Me Who to Love.” October 2016 saw the five-track EP Noyes Complaint arrive on the same label. In February 2017 she returned with the expansive dance single “London” and joined Vanic on “Too Soon.” Additional 2017 releases included “Say It to My Face” and the Third Eye Blind-interpolating “Goodbye” with Mokita. Her second EP, Love Songs from a Lolita, surfaced in 2018 and contained the track “New Friends.” Early 2021 introduced the hazy, free-spirited single “Diggin Da Blunt,” preceding the September arrival of her first long-player, The Feeling’s Mutual.
