Biography
Originating from Gary, Indiana, urban R&B duo Trina and Tamara were the sisters of singer Jesse Powell. The Powell family moved to Philadelphia in 1983, where all four siblings joined their mother Emerald in the group Sheer Joy. After Jesse relocated to Los Angeles in 1990, Trina and Tamara followed and began careers as session vocalists. While part of Somethin' for the People, the sisters landed a 1997 hit with "My Love Is the Shhh." The duo later signed to Columbia and issued their self-titled debut album in 1999.
