Biography
Alternative metal outfit Trust Company, also known as TRUSTcompany and TRUST*CO, came together in Montgomery, AL, around 1997 with Kevin Palmer handling vocals and guitar alongside Jason Singleton on drums. The pair first crossed paths after high school in a local band, then split off to launch their own project. Their sound stood apart through a blend of melody and guitar-driven metal shaped by Pantera, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Deftones. Joined by bassist Josh Moates, they operated as a trio for three years until second guitarist James Fukai came aboard in 2000. Describing themselves as weekend warriors who avoided covers, they performed any venue that would book them, working the Southeast circuit and extending as far as Texas in pursuit of a deal.
After signing with Dcide Records, the group moved to the Geffen roster. Originally performing as 41 Down, they adopted the Trust Company name ahead of their debut album to sidestep overlap with Canadian pop-punkers Sum 41. The Lonely Position of Neutral arrived in mid-2002 and yielded the moderately successful singles “Downfall” and “Running from Me.” Subsequent tours alongside Korn, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Papa Roach helped the record earn gold certification. Three years later they issued True Parallels, whose supporting dates introduced new bassist Walker Warren. Palmer left the band in August 2005 for personal reasons, prompting a swift breakup. Palmer and Moates later formed Amity Lane with Palmer’s wife, Layla, while Fukai focused on the instrumental metal group Hematovore.
