Biography
The quintet known as Revis channels its infectious post-grunge sound through Justin Holman on vocals, Robert Davis and Nathaniel Cox on guitar, Bob Thiemann on bass, and David Piribauer on drums. The musicians first assembled in the closing years of the 1990s, performing at local venues throughout their hometown of Carbondale, Illinois, while operating under the Orco name. Relocating to Los Angeles in 2001 prompted both a new creative focus and a rebranding that spurred the group to cut a demo. Epic Records responded to the band’s polished delivery by signing Revis to a contract in 2002. That summer, producer Don Gilmore entered the studio with the musicians to shape their first full-length release. The sessions produced the guitar-heavy Places for Breathing. As the album prepared for its late-May retail launch, Carbondale officials proclaimed May 19, 2003, Revis Day in recognition of the city’s rising native sons. In its first week of availability the record moved 10,000 copies and debuted at number one on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.
