Formed in Memphis, Tennessee, the rock quartet Breaking Point featured Brett Erickson handling vocals and guitar alongside Justin Rimer on guitar, Jody Abbott on drums, and Greg Edmondson on bass. Rimer first encountered Erickson while employed at a local music store; the customer had stopped in to buy a P.A. system, and the two quickly recognized their overlapping musical tastes. Rimer later joined the staff at the city’s celebrated Ardent recording facility, contributing to sessions involving 3 Doors Down and Train. Executives at the studio, after receiving the band’s early recordings through Rimer, extended a “spec” arrangement that funded an eight-song demo tracked from late 1999 through August 2000. Memphis radio outlet WMFS began airing several cuts, elevating the track “27” to the station’s most-requested song and eventually to the top of its playlist. Wind Up Records soon signed the group, releasing the Creed-esque debut album Coming of Age in September 2001. Following a period of inactivity, the band reemerged in spring 2005 with the Wind Up-issued sophomore set Beautiful Disorder, by which time Aaron “Zeke” Dauner had taken over drumming duties from Abbott.
