Biography
Tunisiano, a French rapper born Bachir Baccour on May 19, 1979, in the northern Paris suburb of Deuil-la-Barre, traces his roots to Tunisia. He first gained recognition as one of the founding members of the rap group Sniper alongside fellow Parisians Blacko and Aketo. Before stepping out on his own, the trio issued three albums that steadily built their profile: Du Rire aux Larmes in 2000, which reached number 21 on the French albums chart, Gravé Dans la Roche in 2003, which climbed to number two, and Trait Pour Trait in 2006, which topped the chart at number one. During those years the group also delivered a string of singles that connected with listeners, among them “Pris Pour Cible,” “Quand on Te Dit,” “Du Rire aux Larmes,” “On S’en Sort Bien,” the Top Five entry “Gravé Dans la Roche,” the Top Ten hit “Sans (Re)pères,” “Bons Moments,” and “Trait Pour Trait.”
In 2008 Tunisiano launched his solo career with the album Le Regard des Gens and its accompanying single “Equivoque.” The record mirrored the group’s commercial reach by entering the French albums chart at number 11, while also appearing at number 35 in Switzerland and number 24 in Belgium; “Equivoque” itself registered a Top 20 placement in France.
