One of the pivotal figures steering France's rap revival throughout the 2010s, Alpha Wann—previously known as Philly Flingue and Phaal—emerged from Paris and first gained traction inside the '90s-obsessed crew 1995. He later established the Don Dada imprint and carved out a thriving path as a solo artist. His intricate, technically exacting bars and sharply defined creative stance drew admiration from listeners, reviewers, and fellow MCs, placing him firmly inside the upper tier of contemporary French rap.

Born in Fontenay-aux-Roses to Guinean parents, the future rapper developed an early, all-consuming interest in hip-hop that intensified once he relocated to Paris's 14th arrondissement at age ten and immersed himself in the local scene. His initial foray into recording came via the sample-driven, high-energy 2011 EP En Sous-Marin, made alongside longtime associate Nekfeu. Shortly afterward he assembled the collective 1995, whose roster also featured Sneazzy West, Darryl Zeuja, Fonky Flav', and Hologram Lo'. Channeling the classic boom-bap aesthetic of its namesake decade, the group issued La Source in 2011 and followed it with La Suite before delivering its sole studio album, Paris Sud Minute, in December 2012; the nocturnal, jazz-inflected productions showcased Wann's already signature lyrical density and rhythmic complexity.

After a brief period inside the broader L'Entourage network, he turned his focus in the mid-2010s to an independent solo trajectory on his freshly launched Don Dada label. The January 2014 EP Alph Lauren preserved the soulful boom-bap foundation of his group work while opening new sonic doors on cuts such as "Steven Seagal." Two years later he began shaping his debut album UNE MAIN LAVE L'AUTRE, keeping momentum alive with the trap-oriented Alph Lauren 2. The 2018 installment Alph Lauren 3 let him explore further territory—the G-Funk textures of "R5 et Murcielago," the vaporous cloud-rap drift of "Courchevel," and the dark trap atmosphere of "Turban"—all while stoking anticipation for the long-promised full-length. When UNE MAIN LAVE L'AUTRE finally landed in September of that year, its restrained, elegant productions from Hologram Lo', VM the Don, and Diabi framed Wann's most introspective material yet, earning gold certification from SNEP. A subsequent string of dominant freestyle appearances was later packaged as the September 2019 streaming EP PPP. In 2020 he curated the don dada mixtape, vol. 1, uniting Don Dada Records artists including Freeze Corleone, Kalash Criminel, and Kaaris across a set of brooding, boast-heavy trap tracks.
