In 2010 the weirdo pop outfit Walter TV took shape in Vancouver, British Columbia, assembled by Pierce McGarry, Joe McMurray, and Simon Ankenman, a ragtag crew of Technicolor sound sculptors. The musicians later relocated to Montreal and settled into a shared house with Captured Tracks solo artist Mac DeMarco and a host of other ravenously creative musicians. Within this new environment and creative circle they finished their first proper full-length, Appetite, in 2012. They also signed on quickly as touring musicians in DeMarco’s live band, supporting him alongside Homeshake mastermind Peter Sagar. Although a demanding schedule on the road with DeMarco tempered the pace of their own work, the members continued shaping new material whenever time allowed. In 2014 the Captured Tracks subsidiary Sinderlyn Records released a deluxe reissue of Appetite, which had originally appeared only on cassette. Walter TV returned in 2015 with Blessed, a collection of songs written and recorded in Montreal and while traveling with DeMarco. Two years later, during the summer of 2017, the band delivered their vibrant and slightly more introspective third long-player, Carpe Diem.
