Blending American indie rock traditions with threads drawn from their Latino roots, the Red Pears have carved a distinctive route across their home state of California and beyond. Catchy melodies paired with memorable album titles propelled the group early on, beginning with the 2015 debut We Bring Anything to the Table…Except Tables We Can’t Bring Tables to the Table and its breakout track “Daylight/Moonlight,” which quickly turned the trio into festival favorites.

Singer/guitarist Henry Vargas and drummer Jose Corona launched the Red Pears in El Monte, California, just east of Los Angeles. The band’s name and initial duo configuration nodded playfully to the White Stripes, yet bassist Patrick Juarez soon completed the lineup; all three members bonded over indie rock, metal, cumbia, corrido, and the classic rock hits of the 1950s and 1960s that reached El Monte through disc jockey Art Laboe. Their lean, high-energy sound arrived fully realized on the debut album, which spotlighted the riff-driven fan favorites “Daylight/Moonlight” and “Hello-Sin-Nation” with Vargas’ voice at the forefront. The 2018 follow-up For Today, For Tomorrow, For What Is, For What Could’ve Been broadened the palette to include surf, reggae, and local ritmos, while the 2019 EP Alicia—titled after Vargas and Corona’s mothers—delivered tighter, guitar-centric melodies.

Emerging from the COVID-19 period, the Red Pears delivered denser guitar textures and sharper hooks on You Thought We Left Because the Door Was Open But We Were Waiting Outside (2021) and Better Late Than Never (2024). Their following had by then expanded well past neighborhood venues and battle-of-the-bands contests, leading to a Coachella appearance and a 2024 support slot for Chicano Batman at the Forum in Los Angeles.
