Biography
In Louisville, Kentucky, during the opening years of the 2010s, drummer Britt Walford teamed up with multi-instrumentalists Zak Riles and Tyler Trotter to launch the prog-influenced indie rock group Watter. Before this venture, Walford had gained renown through his tenure with the revered underground outfit Slint, remaining absent from new projects for nearly two decades. Riles arrived with prior involvement in the math-folk-rock band Grails. The members developed their debut album, This World, inside a shared studio, drawing on contributions from an eclectic set of guests that included the For Carnation's Todd Cook, vocalist Dane Waters, Rachel's pianist Rachel Grimes, and King Crimson alumnus Tony Levin, who supplied bass on one track. This World appeared in mid-2014, followed by select April performances that year opening for like-minded droners Om. Watter resurfaced in 2017 with the sophomore album History of the Future.
