Biography
Whitmer Thomas, a comedian, dedicated skateboarder, filmmaker, and actor living in Los Angeles, first ventured into music in 2020 by issuing the soundtrack tied to his HBO musical/comedy one-man show The Golden One. Two years later he issued the standalone EP Can't Believe You're Happy Here, produced by Jay Som.
Born in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Thomas achieved initial recognition in 2014 through Stone Quackers, the surreal adult animated series that aired on FX. His profile within the upper ranks of Los Angeles independent comedy grew further through Power Violence, the monthly showcase he co-hosted with friends, as well as short films including Blue Line and Fast and Loose, and guest roles on The Walking Dead and Glow. The Golden One reached HBO audiences in 2020; the special blended pop-punk numbers that Thomas, a longtime blink-182 devotee, wrote and performed on topics ranging from millennial anxiety and sex to abandonment and addiction, and it generated the companion album Songs from the Golden One. While making additional appearances on series such as I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson and Search Party, he returned in 2022 with Can't Believe You're Happy Here on the Hardly Art label. The EP, fronted by the earnest acoustic song "Don't Have a Cow," was helmed by Melina Duterte, known professionally as Jay Som.
