Biography
Recognized early as a prodigy at the classical piano, William Joseph earned a scholarship at age eight from the Boys Club of America, which placed him under the guidance of Russian instructor Stella Saperstein. The Phoenix, AZ, native continued composing and performing from that time onward into his early teens. Following a short hiatus from live appearances, he resumed piano work, issuing two self-produced CDs that helped build a devoted audience by his early twenties. In 2003, at a Phoenix charity gathering honoring legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, he met successful producer David Foster. An unplanned rendition of one of his own pieces drew Foster’s notice, prompting an invitation to play for the event that same night. The strong response led Foster to collaborate with him soon afterward on a project that became his first major-label solo album. Issued by Reprise in 2004, Within blends newly written material, reinterpretations of rock tracks, and classical selections.
