Biography
Louis Landon works as a pianist and composer, specializing in instrumental jazz and new age pieces that carry an uplifting tone. Based in Arizona, this Steinway Artist has written scores for films and commercials while also issuing his own recordings, among them Reality Not Fantasy in 2011, Healing Hearts, Volume 2: Solo Piano in 2015, and Panama Piano in 2020.
Yonkers, New York, is his birthplace, yet he spent his childhood in Studio City, California, where his father, voice actor Leo De Lyon, lent his talents to programs such as Top Cat, The Flintstones, Bewitched, and additional series. Piano study began near the age of five, and classical works soon became his strength. During adolescence he broadened his scope by joining rock bands on guitar and keyboards. After completing high school he attended Stony Brook University and Berklee College of Music in Boston, deepening his engagement with jazz. While living in Boston he encountered saxophonist John Payne. Throughout much of the mid- to late 1970s he performed and recorded within Payne’s fusion ensemble. He also moved to New York and established his own fusion outfit, Nightfire. Additional touring took place alongside John Hall, Rupert Holmes, Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers, and further artists.
After making Sedona, Arizona, his home, Landon created his own production company and redirected his efforts from the road toward composing for film and advertising. He simultaneously launched a series of instrumental jazz and new age albums, opening with Love Songs & Jazz in 1994. Subsequent releases included Feel This in 1999, The Gershwins, Cole Porter & Me in 2004, and Peace Revolution in 2007. He has also produced thematic collections such as Peaceful Christmas Solo Piano in 2010, Healing Piano of Sedona for Massage Yoga & Relaxation in 2014, and Thanksgiving Piano in 2020. Panama Piano appeared the same year, drawing inspiration from a journey he undertook across that nation.
