Biography
Wind Rose, an Italian power metal ensemble formed in Pisa during 2009, drew their conceptual spark from the mythic realm crafted by J.R.R. Tolkien and pledged particular fealty to its Dwarven inhabitants. Blending buoyant symphonic passages with folk-metal vigor, the group steadily climbed the European metal ranks throughout the mid-2010s, expressing their allegiance to the Dwarves through both lyrics and stage presentation until the 2017 release of “To Erebor” expanded their reach. After inking a deal with Napalm Records, they achieved viral breakthrough via the Minecraft-inspired single “Diggy Diggy Hole,” featured on the 2019 album Wintersaga. Capitalizing on heightened attention, the band issued the rousing Warfront in 2022 and Trollslayer in 2024.
The lineup comprises vocalist Francesco Cavalieri, guitarist Claudio Falconcini, keyboardist Federico Meranda, bassist Cristiano Bertocchi, and drummer Federico Gatti. From their inception, both the Tolkien-inspired universe and an aptitude for crafting anthemic power metal were firmly established; a 2010 demo secured a Bakerteam Records agreement that yielded the debut Shadows Over Lothadruin two years later. Subsequent efforts to solidify their standing included support tours alongside Finntroll and Epica, paving the way for the 2015 album Wardens of the West Wind.
By the arrival of their third full-length, Stonehymn, issued in 2017 on Inner Wound Recordings, wider recognition was emerging. Its second single, “To Erebor,” unexpectedly amassed substantial streams and secured festival appearances at Bloodstock in England and Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic. Following the Napalm signing, “Diggy Diggy Hole” appeared in June 2019 as an unabashed Dwarf rallying cry rooted in a Minecraft player catchphrase; the track’s rapid spread spotlighted Wintersaga, which surfaced that September. Momentum carried forward with Warfront in 2022, an album filled with battle anthems, orchestral sections, and a multi-part prog-rock suite that further cemented their reputation. Dwarf-centric themes persisted on 2024’s Trollslayer, a richly melodic collection containing tracks such as “To Be a Dwarf” and “Legacy of the Forge.”
