Biography
Twilight Force, a Swedish ensemble devoted to symphonic power metal, fuses technically accomplished playing with theatrical aspirations. Inspired by classic role-playing titles such as Dungeons & Dragons and Might & Magic, the group’s self-proclaimed “adventure metal” incorporates live-action role-playing costumes and fantasy-themed lyrics that center on the invented universe of The Twilight Kingdoms. Entering the marketplace in 2014 with Tales of Ancient Prophecies, Twilight Force rapidly established itself among Europe’s leading power-metal acts and sustained its exploration of arcane and imaginary realms on Heroes of Mighty Magic, Dawn of the Dragonstar, and At the Heart of Wintervale.
Conceived in Falun in 2011, the band had existed as an idea in the minds of founding guitarist Philip Lindh and keyboardist Daniel Beckman for years beforehand, with many songs on the debut album written well before its eventual release. Bassist Dunder Björn Lundqvist, guitarist Jocke Leandro Johansson, drummer Daniel Sjögren, and vocalist Christian Eriksson completed the lineup in 2013, enabling the ensemble to make its first public appearance later that year in Madrid.
Released on the Swedish independent label Black Lodge Records, Tales of Ancient Prophecies surfaced in 2014, enjoyed modest domestic success, and drew the attention of Nuclear Blast, which promptly signed the group. The aptly titled 2016 album Heroes of Mighty Magic enlarged the symphonic, orchestral, and operatic dimensions while featuring guest vocals from Sabaton’s Joakim Brodén and Rhapsody of Fire’s Fabio Tordiglione. Christian Eriksson departed the following year and was succeeded by Alessandro Conti (Trick or Treat, Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody), who debuted on record with 2019’s Dawn of the Dragonstar. Drummer Isak Olsson, who had replaced Daniel Sjögren in 2020, made his studio debut on 2023’s At the Heart of Wintervale, an album that delivered an intricate and sonically lavish set of sword-and-sorcery-centered power metal containing two ten-minute epics.
