Born in London, England yet raised in Miami, Florida, rapper Ben Miller, professionally known as Wrekonize, belongs to the Mayday! collective while simultaneously pursuing an independent solo path. After honing his skills on Florida’s battle rap scene, he issued his first mixtape, The Chaotic Knowledge Sessions, in 2001. Contract talks with Roc-A-Fella Records began two years later but ultimately collapsed, prompting a move to the South Beat imprint, which released the 2006 mixtape The Waiting Room. Elevator Music arrived the following year, and in 2009 Wrekonize appeared alongside other South Beat acts on Mayday!’s Lords of the Fly mixtape. An earlier guest spot on Tech N9ne’s Welcome to Strangeland paved the way for Mayday! to sign with the rapper’s Strange Music label, resulting in their proper debut album, Take Me to Your Leader, in 2012. The same imprint put out Wrekonize’s solo project The War Within the next year, an effort that included beats from DJ Sharpsound and Michael “Seven” Summers as well as verses from Bernz, Posdnous, and Tech N9ne. Mayday! followed with Believers later in 2013, then teamed with Murs for the 2014 joint release ¡Mursday!. Their third collection, Future/Vintage, surfaced in 2015. Wrekonize resumed solo activity in 2016 via the single “Last Day Alive,” which was succeeded by “Clones” and “Unknown Number” in 2017.
