Born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rican singer and actress Yolandita Monge first appeared before listeners on the radio program Tribuna del Arte during 1969. Her independently issued debut album followed in 1970 and featured the hit single “Vida.” A stage appearance opposite Latin star Libertad Lamarque highlighted her early acting work and quickly led to her own television series produced by Tommy Muñiz. After signing with Teca Records, she relocated temporarily to Mexico in 1974 and issued the albums Parece Fantasia and Con Todo Mi Amor. The artist joined Sony Music in 1982. The following year she captured first prize at a Colombian festival with the song “Si.” Subsequent releases Luz de Luna and Laberinto de Amor earned gold and platinum certifications, respectively, with the latter earning her an initial Grammy nomination. In 1986 she took leading roles in the popular telenovelas Escándalo and La Mentira. Guinness recognized Monge after she performed in three separate Puerto Rican cities on a single day. BMG assembled a live album documenting her career and released it in 2000.
