Zulu Winter crafts anthemic pop laced with syncopated rhythms and introspective lyrics, yielding music that proves equally cerebral and suited to the dance floor. The five members—singer/guitarist Will Daunt, bassist Iain Lock, guitarist Henry Walton, keyboardist Dom Millard, and drummer Guy Henderson—first formed as teenagers in Oxfordshire. They later scattered for college and separate projects before regrouping in London by early 2011 and adopting the Zulu Winter name. That October The Guardian named them New Band of the Day, one month before they supported Friendly Fires on the European leg of their tour and issued their debut single Never Leave. The year closed with Zulu Winter’s appearance in Q Magazine’s The Faces of 2012. February 2012 brought the follow-up single We Should Be Swimming, which Zane Lowe immediately crowned Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1, coinciding with the band’s opening dates on the Pacific Rim portion of the Horrors’ tour. Silver Tongue surfaced the following April and expanded into EP format one month later through added remixes. Two months afterward the group released its full-length debut Language on the Arts & Crafts label.
