In 2020 the drill supergroup 98s, assembled from artists tied to London's Homerton and Holly Street scenes, announced themselves with their first mixtape, Class of 98s. The group's name references the E8 and E9 postcodes represented by its members, who united the Homerton roster of V9, Unknown T, KO, Jimmy, Alchubbino, Mazza, and Smokes with the Holly Street lineup of Billy Billions, Hitman, DA, and Stally. A July single titled "Homerton2Holly" served as an early preview, and the collective sustained interest across the remainder of the year through additional tracks such as "Taco," "Pay Attention," and "98 Degrees." Class of 98s itself reached listeners in September 2020. The release offered fresh variations on drill production while spotlighting the vocal and lyrical talents of its sizable roster.
