Tottenham rapper BandoKay emerged as a central figure among the second wave of OFB artists, forging a tight partnership with fellow collective members DoubleLz and SJ that positioned Y.OFB as one of late-2010s London drill’s most closely watched acts. When SJ entered custody in January 2020, Bando and Lz maintained their grip on the city’s scene, their contrasting styles meshing as Bando’s charged delivery and bold presence offset Lz’s cooler tone.

Born to the late Mark Duggan, BandoKay was raised on the Broadwater Farm Estate, the same north London ground that had already nurtured the Original Farm Boys rap crew. Alongside childhood associates DoubleLz and SJ he sharpened his craft inside the subgroup Y.OFB, quickly generating local excitement through hard-charging tracks such as “GMs in the Cut,” “Bad B on the Nizz,” “Already,” and “Purge.” Although respected within U.K. drill circles, it was their explosive “Next Up?” freestyle that propelled the trio to national attention; the session rapidly became a genre benchmark, showcasing seamless back-and-forth interplay, breakneck cadences, and distinct individual strengths, with Bando supplying particular spark through vivid street narratives delivered at full throttle.

Capitalising on that breakthrough, the OFB younger generation controlled the spotlight for several months: a commanding “Hardest Bars” appearance in March, the multi-million-stream release “Ambush” in May, and a headline slot on Tim Westwood’s largest “Crib Session” in June. With SJ facing legal proceedings, Bando and Lz issued the collective’s first project, Frontstreet, in October 2019; the tape bundled anthems including “Ambush” and “Youngest in Charge.” During SJ’s absence Bando tested solo waters with “Yoo,” logged another Westwood freestyle, and joined Lz on Morrisson’s “Shots (Remix).”

Even after SJ’s January 2020 imprisonment on major charges, the remaining pair kept momentum as a duo. Releases such as “OT Boppin” upheld OFB’s high-energy, hook-driven template, while guest spots with Abra Cadabra on “Let Man Know” and “BLM,” plus turns alongside Deno, Loski, and Frosty, broadened their reach. Bando simultaneously advanced his own catalogue, unveiling “Full Flick” and “Patient” and adding verses to tracks by Swarmz, Mastermind, and Krept & Konan. The follow-up OFB tape, Drill Commandments, surfaced in February 2021; alongside conventional drill cuts featuring the wider roster, it ventured into trap and more reflective territory.
