Biography
Abbath emerged from the remnants of Immortal, a cornerstone of Norwegian black metal, as the project of that band's longtime frontman and guitarist Abbath Doom Occulta, whose real name is Olve Eikemo. Drawing influence from Kiss, Motorhead, Manowar, and Bathory, the group delivered its self-titled first album in 2016, followed by Outstrider in 2019 and Dread Reaver in 2022.
The ensemble took shape in 2015 once Immortal disbanded amid multiple legal conflicts, its dark-themed black metal assault supported by God Seed bassist King Ov Hell along with guitarist and vocalist Per Valla and drummer Creature. A first concert appearance came at Tuska Open Air 2015, after which the musicians entered the studio to record their debut for Season of Mist, issued that January. Substantial personnel shifts preceded the second album, whose 2019 sessions featured Eikemo leading drummer Ukri Suvilehto, guitarist Raud, and bassist Mia Wallace. Further adjustments preceded the third release, with Suvilehto joined by guitarist Ole Andre Farstad and bassist Frode Kilvik on the uncompromising Dread Reaver, which contained a fierce cover of Metallica's "Trapped Under Ice."
