Biography
Singer Adel Tawil already enjoyed considerable prominence on the German pop landscape before launching his solo career with a notable impact in 2013. Born August 15, 1978, in Berlin, Germany, he first gained widespread attention during the 1990s as part of the boy band the Boyz. Producer Triple-M discovered Tawil and his close friend Florian Fischer during a talent show and brought them into the group, which issued its initial release in 1996. The Boyz achieved Top Ten placements in both Germany and Austria with their 1998 single “One Minute,” yet the ensemble disbanded by the close of 1999. Tawil’s trajectory shifted positively in 2002 upon meeting Annette Humpe, the former Ideal and Humpe & Humpe vocalist, while supplying backing vocals on a session she had written and produced. The pair recognized shared musical sensibilities and formed the duo Ich + Ich, whose debut single “Geht’s Dir Schon Besser?” appeared in 2004. Their self-titled first album reached the German Top Ten in 2005 and received gold certification, though the decisive breakthrough arrived with 2007’s Vom Selben Stern, which attained the number-one position in Germany, entered the Top Five in Austria and Switzerland, and earned six-times platinum status domestically. The 2009 follow-up Gute Reise matched that level of achievement, after which Ich + Ich entered a hiatus. By that point Tawil had already issued successful singles in collaboration with Azad and Tobias Schenke, prompting him to contemplate an independent path. He unveiled his first solo album, Lieder, in 2013; the title track climbed to number two on the German singles chart, while the next release, “Aschenflug,” reached position 18. Buoyed by the album’s reception, Tawil confirmed plans for his inaugural solo tour the following year.
