Biography
Liverpool's All We Are craft dreamy, chilled-out indie pop laced with falsetto-driven dance rhythms, a sound once likened to the Bee Gees on Diazepam. Their 2015 debut album cultivated a worldwide audience through its engaging grooves and international flavor, while subsequent work such as 2020's Providence shifted toward blissful uptempo pop after earlier explorations of Krautrock and disco.
The trio first assembled in 2011 at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts. None of its members are English: drummer Richard O'Flynn comes from nearby Ireland, bassist Guro Gikling hails from Norway, and guitarist Luis Santos is Brazilian. They issued a self-released debut EP in summer 2011 and followed it early the next year with the EP We Hunt. By the release of their 2013 single "Utmost Good," the group had established a solid U.K. following. A European tour supporting Warpaint led to a deal with Double Six, an affiliate of Domino Records.
Produced by Dan Carey (Oh Land, Toy, Kate Tempest), several singles paved the way for the band's self-titled 2015 debut LP. After touring in support of that record, All We Are began work on its successor with Warp-affiliated producer Kwes., folding in elements of psychedelia, Krautrock, and post-punk. The resulting second album, Sunny Hills, appeared in mid-2017. Their third release, the upbeat Providence in 2020, concentrated squarely on themes of positivity, love, and friendship.
