Biography
An artist of remarkable precocity, the Swedish singer and multi-instrumentalist Amanda Mair produces melodies of delicate, ethereal quality. Growing up on an island near Stockholm, she commenced vocalizing at the tender age of four and soon mastered several instruments. By the sixth grade, she was performing drums in a cover band dedicated to Hellacopters, yet it was accompanying her vocals on piano that truly aligned her musical path. Shortly thereafter, nightclub appearances became part of her routine, culminating in 2010 when, at fifteen, she laid down cover versions at a nearby studio. The owner was so struck by her talent that he forwarded the recordings to Johan Angergård, the singer and multi-instrumentalist of Club 8 who also heads the Labrador label, leading to her signing. Her inaugural single, "House," emerged the next summer, prompting The Washington Post to liken her style to that of Kate Bush. In October she released "Doubt" while commencing work on her debut album alongside Philip Ekström of the Mary Onettes. She concluded 2011 by receiving Big Breakthrough recognition from the Swedish Music Industry. The self-titled album came out in Sweden during 2012, with a U.S. release following in June, drawing parallels to Lykke Li encountering Rumours and earning acclaim from Aftonbladet, the nation's foremost daily newspaper, as among the finest Swedish debut efforts ever.
