In the early 1980s guitarist Roberto Alvarez, bassist Santi Rubio, vocalist Juan Gallardo, and drummer Iñaki Munitz founded the metal band Angeles del Infierno in San Sebastian, Spain. By 1982 the group had already opened shows for established rock acts such as Motörhead, Saxon, and AC/DC. Their debut album, Pacto con el Diablo, appeared in 1983 and was followed in 1985 by Diabolica. That same year Angeles del Infierno launched tours throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Momentum from the mini-LP Instinto Animal and the 1986 album Joven Para Morir positioned the band as a leading force in Spanish rock, which led to the release of a greatest-hits collection in 1987. The musicians relocated to Madrid in 1988 to record 666, after which they toured Mexico and the United States. Stephan Galfas produced the 1993 album A Cara o Cruz. In 2000 Angeles del Infierno performed at the Viña Rock festival before 28,000 spectators together with A.N.I.M.A.L. and Barón Rojo.
