Biography
Billy Howerdel, who grew up in New Jersey and began his career as a lighting technician before serving as guitar tech for Fishbone, formed Ashes Divide as a kind of solo project to advance beyond those early road roles. During joint tours with Fishbone and Tool in France, he connected with Maynard Keenan, Tool's vocalist, and that link produced the popular mood-metal act A Perfect Circle. While A Perfect Circle remained on hold, Howerdel chose to develop his own musical concepts, drawing on contributions from Alan Moulder, Danny Lohner, Josh Freese, Devo Keenan, Johnette Napolitano, Matt Skiba, and Paz Lenchantin to deliver the debut Ashes Divide album Keep Telling Myself It's Alright in 2008.
