Azarath pulls its membership from prominent figures across the Polish death metal scene. Inferno, previously active in Behemoth, Damnation, and Witchmaster, handles drums, while Bart, whose background includes Damnation, Anima Vilis, and Cenotaph, and Thrufel, who has played in Yattering, Shadows Land, and Masachist, cover guitar duties; Bruno, tied to Damnation and Convent, takes care of bass and vocals. Their collective credits across numerous releases outside the group equip Azarath to deliver its savage, intensely Satanic strain of old-school death metal. Steady studio work and live commitments establish the band as a primary endeavor rather than a casual offshoot.

The project originated in 1998 with a three-piece lineup of Inferno, Bruno, and guitarist “D.” Early recordings comprised the 1998 demo Traitors and the 2000 follow-up Promo 2000, after which the group issued its debut album Demon Seed in 2001, now featuring Bart on guitar. Favorable reception secured a support slot with Vader in 2002. Infernal Blasting appeared the next year, after which D. departed for personal reasons and Thrufel joined. The 2004 split release Death Monsters with Stillborn incorporated material from the earlier Promo 2000 demo. In 2006 Pagan Records issued the third full-length Diabolic Impious Evil, and Azarath again backed Vader, joined by Vesania and Trauma, on the Polish leg of the Blitzkrieg 4 tour. The following year the band shared the Legions of Attack 2007 Polish dates with Stillborn and Deception.
