Biography
Detroit-born siblings BeBe (Benjamin) and CeCe (Priscilla) Winans belong to the gospel-singing Winans clan, which also encompasses their four brothers known collectively as the Winans. Although the pair upholds a core gospel message in their work as a duo, their recordings adopt the sonic polish and contemporary R&B aesthetic. Their self-titled debut, BeBe & CeCe Winans, arrived in 1987 and delivered a modest R&B chart success at number 49 with the single “I.O.U. Me,” which also registered on the adult contemporary side; the project earned the artists three Grammy nominations and one gospel award. The follow-up, Heaven, surfaced in 1988 and yielded three R&B singles—the title track, “Lost Without You,” and “Celebrate Life.” That album climbed into the R&B Top Ten while peaking at number 95 on the pop chart and achieved gold status. Their most successful effort to date, the platinum-certified Different Lifestyles, topped the R&B album chart in 1991 and contained the R&B number-one singles “Addictive Love” and “I’ll Take You There.”
