Biography
Singer and songwriter Becca Mancari infuses folk-rock conventions with atmospheric layers and an undercurrent of indie rock. Their initial release, the atmospheric single "Summertime Mama," appeared in 2015, after which they formed the trio Bermuda Triangle alongside Nashville-based songwriters Jesse Lafser and Brittany Howard. Mancari's first solo effort, Good Woman, arrived in 2017. Their third album, Left Hand, surfaced in 2023 and wove strands of R&B, funk, and electro-pop through its delicate, synth-laden compositions, all centered on self-acceptance.
Born in Staten Island, New York, Mancari grew up with an Irish-Italian father who served as clergy and a mother of Puerto Rican descent. Early exposure to Jack London and Mark Twain sparked a lifelong wanderlust. Throughout their teens and twenties they pursued a transient existence that included temporary work in Florida, time spent with modern-day hobos riding freight trains nationwide, a move to Arizona to follow a first love, and a spiritual journey to India. Following a period in Virginia, they established roots in Nashville, drawn by the city's rigorous environment that they believed would sharpen their songwriting. Regular performances around Music City helped cultivate a following for their intimate material.
The 2015 single "Summertime Mama" led to regional touring across the South and Southwest. Their visibility increased in July 2017 upon joining Bermuda Triangle, whose lineup also featured Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and singer-songwriter Jesse Lafser. October 2017 brought the solo debut Good Woman, helmed by producer Kyle Ryan, recognized for his contributions to Kacey Musgraves. Captured Tracks subsequently signed Mancari, resulting in the June 2020 release The Greatest Part, whose more ethereal sound was shaped by Paramore drummer Zac Farro. That spacious, subtly melodic sensibility carried into the 2023 album Left Hand, which ventured into slinky R&B and '80s pop. Crafted alongside longtime associate Juan Solorzano, the record included appearances by Farro, Bermuda Triangle colleague Howard, and singer-songwriter Julien Baker.
