BeGun

Barcelona-based electronic artist beGun, real name Gunsal Moreno, draws creative fuel from his worldwide travels in an effort to evoke the distinct atmosphere of each city, country, and continent he explores. His method closely parallels that of U.K. producer Gold Panda, with both artists shaping their music around specific locations and the personal emotions tied to those visits. Although each release introduces its own subtle variation, beGun’s signature production style and emphasis on heavy bass lines stay consistent across his output. He began the beGun project in 2013, issuing the San Francisco EP and the Shanghai EP along with several standalone singles. The title track from the San Francisco EP earned Best National Track of 2013 from the Spanish Independent Label Association. The following year, the title track from the Shanghai EP received Best National Video honors from the same body. Later in 2014, continuing his swift pace of releases, beGun delivered the Mumbai EP before stepping back to develop a full-length album. Over the next two years he conducted detailed research into the music and cultures of the African continent, resulting in his debut album Amma in 2016. The record was created in tandem with a short film of the same name that presented eleven brief scenes mirroring the album’s track listing. Amma appeared both as a standalone release and in a DVD edition containing the film, issued through Foehn Records.
