Emerging from Boston, the indie quartet Bent Shapes initiated their musical output back in 2009, initially operating under the moniker Girlfriends. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Ben Potrykus together with drummer Andy Sadoway, the band delivered melodic, hyper-literate post-punk that recalled classic East Coast acts such as the Feelies and the Modern Lovers. Following a series of modest independent releases and praise for their intense live shows, the group adopted the Bent Shapes name in 2012 and issued Cull Shorts, a compilation drawn from their Girlfriends material. A partnership with Father/Daughter Records paved the way for their first full-length album, Feels Weird, in 2013. That record earned considerable acclaim and led to shared bills with Ted Leo, Fucked Up, and the Bats. Guitarist Luke Brandfon and bassist Jenny Mudarri joined ahead of the next release, which also marked a move to Slumberland Records. Elio DeLuca of Titus Andronicus recorded and produced the sophomore album, Wolves of Want, released in early 2016.
