Berwanger

Josh Berwanger, the Kansas-based singer/songwriter who once fronted the seminal indie rock band the Anniversary, records his solo material under the name Berwanger. After the Anniversary split following just two albums in 2003, he assembled the Only Children, a new ensemble that built further on his melodic style shaped by classic rock. By the early 2000s the Only Children had likewise ended, prompting Berwanger to consider a solo path. His debut effort Strange Stains arrived in 2013 and revealed a somewhat softer pop approach centered on isolation and introspection alongside a jangly Tom Petty flavor. Three years later, now operating simply as Berwanger, he released the tuneful Exorcism Rock, a hard-driving set recorded with a tight new backing band that supplied big harmonies and hooks.
