BERWYN

BERWYN, a London-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist born Berwyn Du Bois in Trinidad, arrived in Romford, East London at age nine and made the city his permanent home. Part-time DJ work later strengthened his deep connection to music, while his self-taught mastery of piano, guitar, drums, and violin supplied the foundation for a professional path. He first surfaced in 2020 with the singles “GLORY,” “TRAP PHONE,” and “017 FREESTYLE,” all included on his debut mixtape DEMOTAPE/VEGA, which arrived that September as a lo-fi survey of personal expression built from layered instrumentation and both rapped and sung passages. Elements of trap through bedroom pop surface across the singer/songwriter material. Momentum increased after he reached number three on the BBC’s Sound of 2021 list; he channeled that visibility into the follow-up singles “VINYL” and “100,000,000” before issuing his second mixtape, TAPE 2/FOMALHAUT, in June 2021.
